hey y'all, it's going to be a more laid-back day today, just FYI
I haven't prepared anything intensive, so we can do PicoCTF, TryHackMe, HackTheBox, or whatever y'all're interested in.
Thanks!! See y'all around! \(^▽^)/
also, the weather is definitely picking up, so feel free to stay safe at home!
have a great weekend! :]
This Friday, we took a laid back approach to the club. I didn't have time to prepare much, so we focused on using existing resources.
Our short list at this point in time is:
Today, we found that the "b01lers CTF" started during our club time, so we joined in:
b01lers CTF is the public competitive CTF hosted by the b01lers CTF team at Purdue University.
Registration will open approximately 2 weeks prior to the event. Join our discord at discord.gg/tBMqujE and look out for further info at https://b01lersc.tf
We aim to have a wide array of challenges ensuring that beginner and expert CTF players everywhere will enjoy! Hope to see ya there!
At the end of our ~2-hour investment (from 7pm to ~9pm EST), we completed 2 challenges, putting us in 20th place at the time of this web archive. Given the event is open for several days, I imagine this placement will only decrease. We're all balancing upcoming exams with these extracurriculars, so I don't anticipate a great deal of time invested.
It's worth noting this is the second competition we've seen that uses rCTF. We've had the most experience hosting CTFd, but we've all enjoyed participating in these rCTF events. It seems better suited for these events where the organizers assume a baseline level of technical competency. It's perfect for tracking event submissions, but it doesn't have great facilities to guide users through incremental lessons.
We really enjoyed the custom animations for getting correct and incorrect flags.
They also link to their event infrastructure on GitHub as https://github.com/ky28059/bctf, but I currently get a 404. Maybe they'll open it up after the event ends. If so, it'd be interesting to take a look at.
Angel got a hot plate and made everyone grilled cheeses. It was a success in boosting club morale. He had American Cheese, Pepper Jack Cheese, and a 4 cheese blend. Thank you to Angel for this exquisite treat.

I believe we had 5 active participants in this CTF. Others focused on individual interests.
