Hey @CST!
## 2024-03-01
CST [will meet](https://discord.com/events/371070368754171915/1202388765792931861/1213259474534400000) this Friday, March 1st, from 6 to 8 P.M. in GH 224.
We will be picking from [my list of hacking resources](<https://zack.fyi/blog/hacking-resources.html>) and working on whatever y'all think is interesting :]
Some ideas:
- @xxgarrettsmithxx was interested in the [OSU! CTF](<https://ctf.osugaming.lol/>) today
- Some of the challenges from the last CTF included binary disassembly. We could learn more about that with <https://crackmes.one/>
- We could do more cryptography with <https://cryptohack.org/challenges/>
- Anything from [the list](<https://zack.fyi/blog/hacking-resources.html>) ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
If you are already heading out for spring break, no worries! Have a great break!!

We participated in the OSU! CTF.
For this CST meeting, I wanted to focus on supporting club members in their ambitions. I reviewed my list of resources two weeks ago, and checked the CTFTime Calendar. A few members were interested in the OSU! CTF that would be open during our meeting. Not everyone knew about OSU ahead of time, but everyone seemed to enjoy the event nonetheless.
Our team was called NKCyber (web archive). In our 2 hour meeting (plus Robert doing some on Saturday), we completed the following challenges:
Category | Challenge | Solve date | Points |
---|---|---|---|
osint | kfc-with-who? | 2024-03-02 | 106 |

At time of writing, this places us with 1061 total points, in 317th place in the Open division, 317th place across all teams. There are currently 984 teams registered, so I consider this fair performance.
Just for reference: We've had a student from Campbell County High school attend the past two meetings, and it's been a really positive experience for everyone involved. We'd all love to support local high school students' cybersecurity education as much as possible, and they have a lot of experience we can learn from. I plan to make our meetings as accessible as possible to high school students.
People generally seemed to enjoy the meeting, and considered it more enjoyable than our experience with the BITSCTF 2024 on 2024-02-16.
Participating in events and using public resources drastically reduced the amount of preperation time required for this meeting. I think I spent < 1 hour preparing for this meeting.
The meeting officially ran from 6pm to 8pm, and a bunch of us went to Taco Bell afterwards. At Taco Bell, E-Board members unofficially continued discussion of a Minecraft server, and found that Campbell County High School has already gone through several hurdles related to hosting a Minecraft server at school. A Discord channel was created to facilitate further discussion.
10 students (9 NKU/1 CCHS) Of these 10 students, 9 actively participated in the CTF.
As the first meeting before spring break, we expect attendance to be lower.
9 people attended this meeting, according to CampusGroups, which does not include the 1 student from Campbell County High School.
I checked people in manually, as we've had issues with CampusGroups' self check-in in the past.
